King's Lynn Art Club was founded in 1945 and is King's Lynn's oldest art club - indeed in 2015 it's members will be celebrating it's 70th anniversary.
Founder members were Sidney Bent (Chairman), Nell Bolton (secretary and treasurer) and members Eric Bocking, Steve Sadler, Jeff Williams, Margaret Swann and Peter Moody. The Club met in a variety of different venues including the Museum, the old High School, the Fermoy Centre and the Technical College.
Past presidents have all been accomplished artists. Walter Dexter R.A. the celebrated King's Lynn artist much of whose work is in King's Lynn Museum was one of our early presidents. He was followed by Cavendish Morton, Noel Spenser, Ronald Crampton and since 1987, Jeremy Barlow R.O.I.
We welcome artists of all ages to get together to enjoy many aspects of art. There is a suggested topic for each meeting which includes aspects of landscape, still life or models. Also there are sometimes workshops, critiques or demonstrations (mostly by specialist artists). This provides an ideal opportunity for members to exchange ideas, develop new skills and above all to enjoy their art. It is a forward thinking, friendly club and is always keen to welcome new members.
We have a Spring and Autumn term each of approximately 12 sessions. In the Summer we often have outdoor painting days usually combined with a pub lunch!
Our annual exhibition takes place at the King's Lynn Arts Centre to coincide with the King's Lynn Festival in July and all regular attenders are encouraged to show their work.
Currently we meet at the Reffley Community Hall, Reffley Lane, King's Lynn PE30 3SF on Thursday afternoons from 2 - 4 pm.
